Sneak Learning into Virtual Spring Break Plans

As we continue to stay home in response to COVID-19, locals continue to look for unique ways to explore the outside world, teach their ‘new’ students at home and find balance in this (temporary) reality.  Known as a popular family destination, The Tri-Cities region is offering a variety of ways to travel from home, and sneak in some education at the same time.

Sneak STEM into a Virtual Spring Break. Discover outer space (from home) with the help of scientists at the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory in Tri-Cities, designed to open the field of gravitational-wave astrophysics through the direct detection of gravitational waves predicted by Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity.  Encourage students to search for constellations, gravitational waves, discover black holes and spark a curiosity in space that will last a lifetime. Learning resources include readings, games, videos and an app to track gravitational waves. For more information, visit www.ligo.caltech.edu/page/activities-try-home.

The Show Must Go On.  The Academy of Children’s Theatre in Tri-Cities is offering new online programming. These free workshops and experiences are designed to help theater lovers stay connected, learning, creative, and supported during these several weeks. Programing includes the Play in a Weekend Contest (April 2 at 11a.m.), a chance for the entire family to create a play, film it and share it on Facebook and Directing with Emily Richman (April 4 at 11a.m.), a chance for want to be directors to learn all about the craft. Join through Facebook live broadcasts.  For more information and to view a complete lineup of workshops visit the ACT Facebook and Instagram pages and the ACT website at www.academyofchildrenstheatre.org.

Stay Grounded with Yoga and Barre. Break up the day with yoga and barre hosted by the pros at Pura Vida Barre & Yoga.  Free videos can be found online on the Pura Vida Barre & Yoga Facebook page or by creating a free VIMEO account.  Practice solo or turn it into a P.E. class for the kiddos.   For more information visit www.puravidabarreyoga.com.
