A Tasty Way to Support Salmon Restoration, Orca Recovery

When you think of the PNW, what comes to mind?  How about Evergreen trees, mountains, open water and salmon of course! Chef Scott Staples, the force behind Feed Co. Burgers and Uneeda Burger is proudly partnering with Long Live the Kings (LLTK), a Seattle based organization that works to restore wild salmon and steelhead and support sustainable fishing in the Pacific Northwest, to launch the “Sandwich for the Sound.” This rotating sandwich special found at Feed Co. Burgers and Uneeda Burger beginning in November will feature a delicious alternative to salmon. With a goal to raise both funds and awareness for conservation and restoration efforts, twenty five percent of every sandwich sold will be donated to Long Live the Kings.

The inaugural Sandwich for the Sound will feature fresh grilled albacore tuna with celery root puree, apple vinaigrette, cress, endive and fresh green apple salad, black truffle salt and horse radish on a hoagie bun ($15).

“Our southern resident killer whales are in deep trouble.  The three, local salmon-eating orca “pods” that regularly visit our area now number only 74 whales, down from a high not so long ago of almost one hundred,” notes Long Live the Kings Executive Director Jacques White. “Most scientists say that the fundamental reason for the orcas’ decline is they just can’t find enough of their favorite food – Chinook salmon. Until we can fully recover our local Chinook runs, another great choice to help the whales is to select seafood alternatives we know won’t harm their chance at survival.”

“With a deepening plight of our southern resident killer whales, it is heart breaking to see these magnificent symbols of the Pacific Northwest struggling to thrive and find enough salmon to sustain them,” said Chef Scott Staples “We are passionate about doing our part to contribute to the salmon conservation efforts and are beyond thrilled to be a part of this partnership.”

Find the Sandwich for the Sound at Feed Co. Burgers and Uneeda Burger daily beginning November 7 and available on an ongoing basis.
