A Northwest Tradition Evolves as Alderbrook Resort & Spa Unveils Renovation

Following a three-year property evolution, Alderbrook Resort & Spa is thrilled to announce the completion of its renovation. Along with a full interior remodel found throughout The Restaurant, The Spa, common areas, lobby, gift shop, and event spaces, the historic Hood Canal hideaway welcomes a new all-day eatery, The Drinkery.

The Restaurant, which was closed for construction beginning January 2022, is now open with enhanced seating in the bar space and an open feel to enhance the Hood Canal views. A variety of new spaces beckon both intimate meals and group celebrations. Sara Harvey will lead the refreshed restaurant as executive chef, offering locally sourced Pacific Northwest cuisine with a sense of timeless adventure. Harvey previously held the chef and operations manager position at the resort’s Union City Market, preceded by roles at Hama Hama Oyster Company, Hitchcock on Bainbridge Island and other notable Seattle-area kitchens.

“Sara brings the energy, expertise and that authentic Hood Canal vibe to the dining experience,” notes General Manager Shaun Tucker. “We were so fortunate to have her rejoin the team in 2021, and look forward to sharing her talent with our guests in this enhanced capacity.”

The Spa at Alderbrook Resort, which has been operating in a temporary home, will re-open on May 1. The enhanced space will continue to provide an array of treatments, including massages, body wraps and facials, with a customized approach.

An easy extension of the lobby experience, the new Drinkery is tucked away with easy morph-ability – from morning coffee to lunch and happy hour to night caps and snacks. Designed to become part of the arrival experience, a variety of beverages and light menu options are available daily from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. for morning or early afternoon beverages and 3 p.m. – 9 p.m. for cocktails and light menu items.

The design of this ageless canal retreat, spearheaded by SKB Architects, was inspired by thoughtful nostalgia. The new concept enhances the familial atmosphere inspiring both intimacy and spaciousness while weaving the Hood Canal vibe throughout the spaces.

“The evolution of the resort will continue to center on our goal to ensure every guest walks away with a tranquil and memorable experience,” notes Alderbrook Resort & Spa Owner Tricia Raikes. “Whether it’s trying fresh oysters for the first time, learning about nurse logs on the trails or reconnecting with loved ones in a meaningful way, we hope the resort offers fun and rejuvenating experiences for all.”

Custom carpeting brings the sea inside, complemented by a warm palette alongside enhanced natural light that creates connectivity, a sense of place, and connection to the outdoors. The new entry and lobby area is enhanced with subtle discoveries like etched quotes in the furniture, cozy nooks and welcoming spaces. Gathering spaces offer a lighter and brighter look and feel, designed to accommodate a wide range of events, from intimate weddings to company retreats.

Since opening in 1913, Alderbrook Resort & Spa has provided a sanctuary for travelers and a launching pad for adventurers. Previous property updates included a renovation in 2004, followed by a guestroom refresh and cottage refresh in 2017 and 2018, consecutively.
